The high-end Dayton Audio BR-1 2-way monitor is based on the popular Dayton Audio DC28F-8 1-1/8inch (2.9cm) silk dome tweeter and DC160-8 6.5inch (16.5cm) woofer. It was designed to provide a low cost, easy to build 2-way system for the novice speaker builder. The end result is a kit that can be put together in a matter of hours and has a sound to rival systems costing two or three times its modest price!

Overall, the speakers are smooth and detailed, with a wide soundstage that belies their small size. The tonal balance is on the warm, neutral side, which is comfortable with most genres of music. The bass is also impressive for a system of this size. The cabinets are constructed of 2/3 inch (1.6 cm) thick MDF covered with a discreet "black ash" vinyl laminate and include grilles with black fabric. All driver holes are CNC precision cut for a perfect fit. The tweeter is flush mounted to reduce diffraction effects.
