Linear power supplies, with their larger, high-quality, and stable output voltage, as well as lower ripple and noise, offer a significant sonic advantage.
The PL50 is a high-quality linear power supply that brings a lower noise floor, smoother dynamics and transients, as well as a more precise and warmer sound down to the lowest frequencies. Compared to switching power supplies, the noise of linear power supplies is lower and lies in the frequency range to which the human ear is relatively insensitive.
In contrast, the noise of switching power supplies is higher-frequency and can easily disrupt the analog part of audio circuits due to interference. This, in turn, causes switching power supplies to have a fundamentally negative impact on the output sound.
The noise of switching power supplies can even indirectly affect the digital part of audio circuits, further impairing sound quality.
Because the low-frequency noise of linear power supplies has a fixed frequency, this noise can be filtered out better and more accurately.
In addition, the large FiiO PL50 is equipped with a filter circuit on the AC side to filter out interference generated by other electrical devices used in the same AC circuit, thus ensuring an even cleaner and more stable power supply.

Custom High-Quality Transformer

Toroidal transformers inherently have numerous advantages that give them high efficiency. This is because the coils inside the transformer are not bent at a specific angle, resulting in a more uniform magnetic field and less magnetic flux leakage. Inside the PL50 is a custom-built 50 VA audiophile-grade toroidal transformer constructed from high-quality Nippon Steel iron and high-purity, oxygen-free copper wires, ensuring higher efficiency, greater precision, more stable voltage, and higher power output.

Fully Optimized, Solid Parts

For higher and more reliable performance, high-quality components were selected for each part of the design—such as the Shindengen bridge rectifier, the TI voltage regulator, and the Nippon Chemi-Con and Rubycon capacitors.

Two Voltage Outputs

The FiiO PL50 supports both a 12V and a 15V output, allowing it to meet the voltage requirements of various FiiO devices.

Metal Construction

Like other products in FiiO's industrial design, the outer shell of the PL50 is made of an aluminum-magnesium alloy, which not only gives the device a sophisticated structure but also effectively isolates the internal components from external noise and interference.
