Van Den Hul Colibri XGW Grand Cru
The handcrafted Colibri Gran Cru is the latest and greatest version of the famous Colibri. The Colibri Gran Cru features (a special Grand Vintage, you might say) hand-wound gold wire coils and a solid boron needle carrier, while the case is made from a very long-seasoned type of wood used specifically for instrument making. This special material underlines the particularly pleasant and exceptional music reproduction. The Colibri Gran Cru contains Van den Hul's well-known VDH-1S needle grind, which the company has used and perfected since 1973. The Colibri Grand Cru requires a tracking force of 1.35 to 1.5 grams. According to Van den Hul, it is even possible to operate the pickup with a tracking force of just 1.25 grams. The output voltage is 0.5 mV, while the load impedance is specified as 120 ohms to 47 kohms. The VDH Colibri 'Gran Cru' is the highlight of A.J. van den Huls 44 years of research and development in the field of pickup construction.

The Gran Cru
Company founder A.J. Van den Hul told SoundStage! Australia: “After making so many models, I needed something to speed up my creative thinking process. This was the catalyst to think deeper about cartridge design, and the Gran Cru is the result. Van den Hul continued: “In terms of detail resolution and dynamics, I think the Gran Cru will have few rivals. When developing Gran Cru, I also carefully focused on its spatial and timing characteristics. “
