Mundorf is a specialist for high-end components. That is why we have included the most interesting components from Mundorf here. The coils offered here are made of enamelled copper wire with a purity (copper) of 99.99%. The bobbin is made of polyamide, glass fiber reinforced. The coils have tinned wire ends and are labeled. The inductance is measured at 25 degrees Celsius; their tolerance is +/- 3%. L indicates the inductance, R the DC resistance, wire-D the wire diameter and DxH the diameter and height of the coil.
Mundorf coil
Air coils (i.e. coils without ferromagnetic core material) are absolutely distortion-free. The only disadvantage is the increasing ohmic resistance with the inductance. For large inductances, one therefore either needs large wire cross sections or one switches to core coils for reasons of cost or size.
Improving the sound with baked enamel coils or with vacuum soaking
In vacuum soaking, the coil is impregnated with a lacquer under vacuum. The paint flows into the very inner turns. Then the paint is dried at 130 degrees Celsius. This prevents vibrations in the winding, which can distort the music signal. Mundorf recommends vacuum drinking from 2 mm wire, including the baked enamel version, which you can find below.
