At Massive Audio, we strive to make unique designs to solve different challenges in audio. For example, we approached the market for 10” & 12” surface mount subwoofers with the very cool UFO series. But what if you needed even more extreme space savings with a smaller sub, while still having great bass on your journey? Our all-new Massive Audio SUMMO64S is an innovative approach to that solution.

What makes the SUMMO64S special, yet unique in design? It’s all in the new motor and the new basket. The SUMMO64S takes the approach of reducing the height of the motor by reducing the height of the magnets. But don’t worry, we compensate for that by increasing the outer diameter. This way, no motor strength is lost, but still improves the mounting depth. We also moved the SUMMO64S to a solid pole motor design to increase the motor strength even more by adding steel inside the motor. Your first thought might be, wait, doesn’t that affect cooling? Of course it does, which is why we went with a new basket design that uses lots of side vents for airflow out of the motor to keep the voice coil nice and cool during intense bass tones. One benefit of the solid post with no rear motor vent means you can go super shallow with the SUMMO64S because it doesn’t need air space behind the motor to stay cool.

Now you might notice that there’s a hex screw on the back of the motor. No, it’s not for taking the SUMMO64S apart. That hex screw is supposed to take the efficiency of the SUMMO64S up a notch. When a subwoofer plays deep tones, baffles can often bend, and bending the enclosure causes output loss. You don’t want all the output coming from the cone and port to be lost or wasted in the box. All of this means that you can physically mount the SUMMO64S not only to the front baffle of the enclosure, but also to the rear of the enclosure. You can do this by screwing the hex head screw through the back of the enclosure, into the back of the subwoofer motor. This will mechanically lock everything in place much more rigidly than without it. You see, special and unique.

The SUMMO64S shares key performance parts from the SUMMOXL series, such as the Kevlar Fiber reinforced non-pressed paper cone and OFC direct wires. In addition, a 4-layer, high-temperature voice coil, fiberglass woven dust cover, a high-rolled wrap and triple black polycotton spindles with a mirrored layout. All the DNA from the SUMMOXL series, mixed with the innovative motor design, makes for a very strong approach to a compact and shallow subwoofer that can keep up .
