The Mission: Affordable High-End Pickups
As a hi-fi distributor with four decades of analog experience, we are often confronted with the question of high-quality,
state-of-the-art, yet affordable pickups.
We hardly found anything suitable - and finally developed our own line of MC systems:
E xcalibur Gold, Black, Red, Green & Blue.
Technically superior: moving coil
All Excalibur models work according to the MC principle.
Compared to MM or MI designs, this brings lower inductance and higher mechanical integrity,
the most linear, broadband frequency response and thus the best detail and pulse reproduction.
Excalibur Blue, Gold & Black are classic low-output MCs for the lowest possible moving mass and maximum dynamics.
Green & Red are high-output MC systems that can be easily operated with any MM phono input.
When good shape improves the sound: Design by Helmut Thiele
Every little detail on the generator as well as on the housing of a pickup can influence the sound.
We therefore worked with the renowned industrial designer Helmut Thiele on the inner and outer design of the Excalibur models.
In many hours of listening tests, prototypes and refinement steps, a system family has been created that
can be manufactured efficiently, but still provides maximum neutrality and precision.
Made in Japan: where perfect craftsmanship is sacred
The manufacture of our Excalibur systems is carried out by a manufacturer in Japan that has been working for many of the very big analog names for decades.
High manufacturing consistency, absolute precision and meticulous quality control are an integral part of the company's identity.
So we can be sure that every Excalibur Gold, Black, Red, Green or Blue sounds the way we defined it during development.
Green, Blue, Black, Red or Gold: The right version for every requirement
All Excalibur models have a hollow needle holder made of aluminum - the material is low-resonance, stiff, unbreakable
and gives the diamond precise, play-free hold.
Only bare, crystal-oriented diamond rods, which offer the lowest inertia and best wear properties, are used as tracer pens.
For the Green and Blue models, they are based on synthetic raw stones that are given a classic elliptical cut.
The Excalibur Gold, Black and Red wear an even higher quality natural diamond in the complex Shibata cut,
which not only results in outstanding high-tone resolution and low distortion,
but also significantly extends the life of the needle and minimizes plate wear.
